Fruit of the Spirit

Picture of God #68,Thurs 1/11 thru Sat 1/13

I've written before about the FRUIT (singular, there is only 1) of the Holy Spirit.

Galatians 5:22-25:

But the fruit of the Spirit is:

  1. love,

  2. joy,

  3. peace,

  4. patience,

  5. kindness,

  6. goodness,

  7. faithfulness,

  8. gentleness and

  9. self-control.

It's been a most remarkable week.

Just for giggles (no one will get hurt here), here's a copy of the stuff I type during my "day job."

'4 Customer #...........It goes on and on............

Yoo Hoo!  Me again......Yup......That's what I do......At last count there's 270,000 lines of it.  Oh well.

And the tricky part is just about the time you somehow, by luck or grace or fortune or whatever, actually manager to get it RIGHT........Of course the customer needs to change it.

Then last night after (there is a point to all this) a splendid week of this, I tried to have a planning meeting for the future of TCOY.....Is seemed to go well, till I said something that someone else didn't like, didn't like at all, and it devolved into an argument.  Very sad.

At one point I jumped up and said something to the effect of "How Dare You!!!!!!!"...............on and on.....  The details really do not matter.

Here's the interesting part.....After my little "pronouncement", the lady in attendance said the most remarkable thing.....She said, "How can you claim to have the Holy Spirit when you have all this anger?"

Now THAT, friends, is an interesting question.  And here's my answer.

The short answer, like the Bible says, is, "Be angry, but do not sin." Eph 4:26.  A bit tricky to understand, I'll admit.

Again, the 9 aspects of the Fruit of the Spirit:

Galatians 5:22-25:

But the fruit of the Spirit is:

  1. love,

  2. joy,

  3. peace,

  4. patience,

  5. kindness,

  6. goodness,

  7. faithfulness,

  8. gentleness and

  9. self-control.

The truth is, most people do not even understand the meaning of these words within a spiritual context!!

Take "Self-control".  At no point did I "lose" it.  I knew what I was saying, Why I said it, and did so for a reason.  I was trying to dramatically make a point.  That is quite different from losing all self-control, committing violence, etc....We have all seen human flailing about with no concept of what they're doing.

Peace.  Folks......I wish you could live one hour in my soul......I live in a GORGEOUS house, in a GORGEOUS place....to describe it any more than that would be bragging......February of 1999 I put it up for sale...I was going to live in my brother's garage (literally), live off the proceeds from the sale, and dedicate myself 100% to TCOY.  I became convinced that doing that would destroy the company (I am not bragging here) and seriously adversely affect dozens of lives.  So I "re-upped", until Jan 1 , 2004.  That's 155 weeks from now.  At that time, rich, poor or dead, I resign from computer programming and dedicate myself 100% to this ministry..........The point being that the thought of losing  my ENTIRE HOUSE did not destroy my peace, still making me the richest man I know, because of the presence of the Holy Spirit within.

But we're talking about PEACE here............With the abiding presence of the Holy Spirit within me

You see, there are 2 kinds of peace........The peace of "the world", which means you have no cares or problems at all.  Good luck.  The INNER peace, the Peace of the Spirit, finds peace regardless of the external circumstances.

The same issue is with Joy.  Happiness is the feeling when we go into a great restaurant, or buy a new cat.  But that, again, is TEMPORAL and external.

Time continues to press on me, so I will close with this:

The emotions, character traits and qualities the WORLD wants you to have are TEMPORARY and EXTERNALLY INDUCED.

The aspects of the Fruit of the Holy Spirit are ETERNAL and INTERNALLY GENERATED.

I don't know how to say it any clearer than that.
