Does Your Cat Love You....?

Thought for your day #34, Fri 9/29/00.

I am fortunate to live in a 2 story house.  Fortunate I say because some days, due to my generally lazy lifestyle, walking up the 15 stairs to the 2nd story is about all the exercise I get.

I live with 2 cats.  Energetic fellows, they get along with their dad just fine.  And, since they have no claws and are such delicate creatures anyway, they never go outside.

That's Lord Buckingham Fuzzmovitch Bucket on the left, and His Royal Majesty Fluffinstuff on the right, having a business meeting.

I recently had a house guest who was seriously allergic to cats.  So, at night I would lock the cats upstairs, where the office is.

Well, about a month ago I did a major cleaning of the office....I threw-out 15 trash bags of accumulated "stuff" from the last 12 years.  And, being the lazy fellow I am, rather than carry the trash bags downstairs I just opened a window and tossed them to the ground.

So, the next morning I am downstairs drinking my orange juice when all of a sudden I see Fluffinstuff standing outside by the screen door, crying to be let in.

At that moment the world kind of spun a little, as I stared in unreality...These are indoor cats....They were locked upstairs....and yet, here was Fluffinstuff downstairs, crying to get let in.

Then it hit me......Oh no.....How could I have been so stupid?  When I was done throwing those bags out the window, I never replaced the screen!  So the cat had jumped out the 2nd story window, landing (it turned out) on the trash bags, and came walking around to the other side of the house where I was talking with my houseguest.

Now the point of this is......That cat missed me....He heard his dad talking, and jumped out of the 2nd story window to try to find me.

And I just got to wondering......I mean, would I jump out of that 2nd story window for anything, even a double-pepperoni pizza?  Would I, in fact, jump out of that window to look for YHWH and try to talk to Him?

And then I had a vision...Me at the Pearly Gates.....And God looks down and says,

"Sure, Son, come on in.  I'm just sad that you never loved me as much as your cat loved you.  Too much to ask, I guess."

So, now you know what the dots are for in the title of this little thought for your day.  The full title of this is,

Does Your Cat Love You More Than You Love God?

And that title is the question and the point and the sermon and the meaning and everything.

I guess you could call it the Cat's Meow.
